William Charles Stone

William Charles Stone, 69, of Abbeville, husband of Ira Dean Williams Stone, died Friday, June 13, 2025, at the Abbeville Area Medical Center.

Charles was born on October 12, 1955, and left this Earthly realm on June 13, 2025. He graduated from Abbeville High School, Class of 1973, where he played on the first state championship football team in 1971. Charles was an avid nature-lover and outdoorsman, and spent much of his time hunting, fishing and shrimping.

He spent many years employed with the City of Abbeville and Little River Electric Co-op as a lineman; however, most will remember his time as a Game Warden with the SC Dept of Natural Resources. Retiring after 28 years as First Sargent in District 2, Charles was a prolific servant to the community, lending a carpenter’s hand to neighbors, widows and those in need. He was a dedicated member, former Deacon and cemetery sexton at Lebanon Presbyterian Church. Charles had a deep relationship with the Lord and looked forward to eternity in Heaven.

He is preceded in death by his parents William (Bill) C. Stone and Sybaline Simpson Stone; infant brother, James Robert Stone; and step-son, Craig Clark.

Charles is survived by his wife of 39 years, Ira Dean Williams Stone; children, Erik Stone and Melissa Stone (Ben Rushton); step daughter, Ginger Crawford (Matt) and daughter-in-law, Donna Clark; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; siblings, Donnie Stone (Joann), Glen Stone (Wanda), and Brenda Barnes; step-mother, Joannah Stone; step siblings, Amy Crittendon and Mark Crittendon (Linda); half-sister, Anna Benson (Kevin); numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:00PM on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, in the Lebanon Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. Funeral Services will begin at 2:30PM on Tuesday in the church sanctuary with the Rev. John Butler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
