Thelma Lee "Ervin" Fortescue
January 28, 1936 — June 14, 2018
Thelma Lee Ervin Fortescue, 82, wife of the late William “Bill” Andrew Fortescue, of Abbeville, died Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia. She was born in Abbeville County to the late Robert Lee Ervin and Lois Croy Ervin.
Mrs. Fortescue was employed by the Abbeville Shirt Plant and later retired from Calvin Klein Industries after 25 years of service. She was a member of what was formerly the Spiritual Church of God in Abbeville. Mrs. Fortescue valued nature and found joy in gardening and growing flowers. She was enthralled with watching birds from her front porch; many happy hours were spent enjoying God’s creation.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil Ervin and her grandson, William “Little Billy” Fortescue.
Mrs. Fortescue is survived by her two daughters, Mary Ann Ruston, of Greenwood and Lois V. Fortescue of Abbeville; brothers, Hubert Ervin, William C. Ervin (Faye), Donnie Ervin, Jimmy Ervin (Sissy), all of Anderson and John Ervin (Jeanie) of Antreville; two granddaughters, Haley Mariel Cheek Rogers (Mike), of Gloucestershire, England and Nicole Rushton (Chris) of Greenville; and a great-grandson, Caiden Rain Tran.
Funeral services will be 11:00AM, Saturday, June 16, 2018 in the Harris Funeral Home Chapel, Abbeville. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the chapel. A private family burial will be in Little Mountain Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The family is at their respective homes.
