Simone M. Simmons

Simone Morgan Simmons, 87, of Abbeville, SC wife of the late Claude Leroy Simmons, died Saturday, April 26, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Greenville, SC to the late Clarence and Grace Smith Morgan.

A 1961 graduate of Lander College, Mrs. Simmons retired from the Abbeville County School District after 30 years of dedicated service, helping to shape the minds and futures of countless students. She believed in fostering a love for learning and encouraged curiosity and exploration in every student she taught.

Throughout her life, Mrs. Simmons embraced the joys of gardening, reading and playing cards. She took immense pleasure in spending time with her family and friends, especially at the beach, cherishing each moment spent in their company. A devoted member of the Abbeville First Baptist Church, Simone found happiness in singing in the choir, reinforcing her deep sense of faith and community.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her sister, Sonja Thornley.

She is survived by her son, Luke Simmons and his wife, Jennifer, of Abbeville; two grandchildren, Christopher Simmons and his wife, Taylor, and Joseph Simmons; two great-grandchildren, Simone ‘Quinn’ and Emmy Simmons; and numerous extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends 5:00PM – 7:00PM, Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2:00PM, Thursday, May 1, 2025, at the Abbeville First Baptist Church Christian Life Center with Rev. Tripp Speer and Rev. Chris Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
