Rodney P. ‘Rod’ Wurst, 85, of the Savannah Lakes Village Community in McCormick, SC, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 2, 2024 at the Hospice House in Greenwood, SC. 

 

He was born in Ottoville, OH to the late Frank H. and Hilda Scharf Wurst. He grew up in Ottoville and graduated from Ottoville High School. He furthered his education and earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Dayton in 1960.

 

Rodney dedicated many years of his life as an Electrical Engineer at Smith Industries Aerospace & Defense Systems until his retirement. His commitment and dedication to his profession made him highly respected among his colleagues.

 

Rod was a man of great faith and an active member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in McCormick. He was one of the charter members of the Men’s Club and played an integral role in the church community. Rod was also involved with the Knights of Columbus Council #9715 & #7129 for many years, where he achieved the rank of 4th Degree Knight.

 

Outside of his professional and church endeavors, Rodney enjoyed being a part of the MSG9 Social Group, where he formed cherished friendships within the community.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Richard, Leo, and Arthur Wurst.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Lois Wurst, who stood by his side throughout their journey together. Rodney leaves behind a legacy of love and strength that will forever be cherished by his four children: Julie M. Wurst of Yardley, PA, Jennifer ‘Jenn’ Hanlon (Jeff) of Dunwoody, GA, Paul J. Wurst of Pensacola, FL, and Patrick J. Wurst of Yardley, PA; a brother, Larry Wurst of Dayton, OH, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who were dear to his heart.

 

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be 11:00AM, Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 1401 Greenwood Highway, McCormick, SC 29835 with Rev. Father Jacob Joseph officiating.  Inurnment will follow in the Good Shepherd Columbarium. The family will receive friends in the church hall following the inurnment.
