SFC Robert L. Mabry, Sr., US Army, RET. of 618 Old Calhoun Falls Road, passed away Sunday, August 15, 2004 at his home in Abbeville. Born November 1, 1931 in Ware Shoals, SC, he was the son of the late Ralph Mabrey and Fannie Mae Mabrey Martin. He was survived by his wife, Kathleen Horton Mabry; four children- a daughter and her husband, Kathy M. Hall and John Speed Hall, Sr., a daughter and her husband, Robbie M. Brown and Wayne L. "Scooter" Brown, a daughter, Rhonda M. Hesson, and a son and his wife, Robert L. "Bobby" Mabry, Jr. and Kimberly Suggs Mabry; thirteen grandchildren- John Speed Hall, Jr., Jammie S. Hall, Jeremy W. Brown and his wife, Carol Berrios Brown, Haley K. Brown, Troy L. Brown, and Casey C. Brown, Daniel L. Hesson and Jessica LaCons Hesson, Robert Bradley "Brad" Hesson, Krystal D. Land, Drake A. Mabry, Savannah L. Mabry, Gabriel M. Mabry, and Katelyn R. Mabry; two great grandchildren- Andrew L. Long and Kaleb L. Hesson, all of Abbeville; a brother and his wife, Ted Mabrey and Pat C. Mabrey, a sister and her husband, Clyde Cooper, of Greenwood; a half-brother, Donnie Martin, and two half-sisters, Joyce M. Thompson and Betty M. Long of Abbeville. He was predeceased by a half-brother, Robert L. "Bobby" Martin. He was retired from the U.S. Army after 23 years of active service. He was a Korean Conflict veteran and was recipient of the Korean Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, United Nations Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. He was also a Vietnam War Veteran with two tours of duty and was recipient of the Vietnam Service Medal with Silver Service Star, Combat Infantryman Badge, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal with Bronze Clasp and 4 Loops, Army Commendation Medal, and numerous achievement awards and certificates of appreciation. He was also retired from the SC Department of Corrections. He served for fifteen years as Elder of Union Presbyterian Church, was a member of the Hometown Baptist Church, the Korean War Veterans Association, the National Coalition of Retired Veterans, the Non-Commissioned Officers Association, the SC Law Enforcement Officers Association, and the NRA. The family will receive friends 6:00PM to 8:00PM, Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at Harris Funeral Home. Services will be held 3:00PM, Wednesday, August 18, 2004 in the funeral home. His son, Robert L. "Bobby" Mabry, Jr. will conduct the service. Burial with full military honors will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens on Highway 72 West, Abbeville.
