Rev. Sam Thomason

Rev. Sam N. Thomason, 72, of Abbeville, beloved husband of Carol Henderson Thomason, died Saturday, February 28, 2026, surrounded by his family at his home. He was born in Greenville, SC to the late William Berry Thomason and Marguerite Cantrell Thomason.

Pastor Thomason was a 1971 graduate of Woodmont High School, received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Lander University and Theological Degree from Erskine Seminary. Pastor Thomason began his ministry in 1992 and was most recently the pastor of Sharon Methodist Church and Smyrna Methodist Church. Sam was an avid outdoorsman, but his greatest devotion was always to his family. He was a pillar of quiet strength, a teacher of life’s simplest and most important lessons, and a man who believed that life’s greatest treasures were memories made together. To his boys, he wasn't just a father; he was a guide who showed them how to navigate the world with integrity and kindness. To his wife, he was her devoted partner, best friend, and the steadfast rock whose unwavering love anchored her world through every season of life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law, Floyd Henderson, and his stepfather-in-law, George Reiter.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Carol; two sons, William Samuel Thomason (Dixie) of Woodruff and Nathan Keith Thomason (Allison) of Anderson; and four sisters, Sandra Burgin (Jim), Cathy Bell (Ronnie), Becky Thomason all of Greenville and Wendy Burch, of Greer. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Tyler, Bailey (Katelin), Bryan (Katie), Sammy, and Marley; and three great-grandchildren, Miya, Charlee, and Rubee. Additionally, he is survived by his mother-in-law, Jan Reiter of Taylors, along with numerous extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:00PM on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at Harris Funeral Home, 302 N. Main St. Abbeville, SC. A service to celebrate the life of Rev. Sam Thomason will be 2:30PM on Wednesday in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Scotty Willoughby and Rev. Stan Colbert officiating.
