Rema Joy Hall Nance

Rema ‘Joy’ Hall Nance, 93, of Abbeville, wife of the late W. C. ‘Billy’ Nance, died Monday, August 17, 2026, at her home. She was born in Abbeville to the late Lemuel Marshall and Evie Lena Beauford Hall.

Joy, as she was affectionately known, attended Sharon High School. She married the love of her life, the late Billy Nance, on December 16, 1949. Throughout her years, she embodied kindness and resilience. Those who knew her will remember her gentle spirit and unwavering dedication to the values she held dear. Joy brought warmth into every room she entered and touched the lives of many with her sincere compassion. She was a life-long member of Providence Presbyterian Church in Lowndesville, SC.

In addition to her husband and parents, Joy was preceded in death by her siblings, Lemuel Marshall Hall, Jr., Beaufort Malone, Ruth Brown, Helen Spence, Evelyn Collins and Willie Brown (Billie).

She is survived by two sons, Ronnie Nance (Susan) of Donalds and Terry Nance of Abbeville; two daughters, Sue Crook (Danny) and Lena New (Al) all of Abbeville; eight grandchildren, Jeff Nance (Amanda), Greg Nance (Ronda), Rebecca Brickle (John), Brenda Crocker (Curtis), Kelly Crook Youngblood, Christy Edwards (Scott), Will New (Tecie) and Carrie Slemp; eighteen great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 3:00PM – 4:00PM on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at Harris Funeral Home, 302 N. Main Street, Abbeville, SC. Funeral services will begin at 4:00PM in the funeral home chapel. A private family burial will be held in Providence Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Memorial contributions, in memory of Joy, may be sent to the Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 226, Lowndesville, SC 29659 or Agape Hospice Care of SC, 326 Montague Ave., Greenwood, SC 29649.

The family expresses their sincere gratitude to Joy’s caregivers and the Team from Agape Hospice Care of SC.
