Phyllis Herzog Hartley, 94, resident of Wesley Commons, wife of the late James Hartley, died Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the Wesley Commons Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Cook County, IL to the late Arthur Ludwig Herzog and Lolita Stockman Herzog.
A graduate of Morgan Park High School in Chicago, IL, Phyllis built a successful career, spending many years employed with California Amforge Corp. However, it was her commitment to her faith and family that truly defined her life. She was a devoted and deeply involved member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenwood, SC, serving as the secretary of the church council and working in the food pantry for many years.
Phyllis and her late husband Jim, retired in 1995 to Carolina Shores, NC where she served on the Board of Directors of the Providence Home, an emergency teen shelter, and showcased her unwavering commitment to helping others and improving the lives of those around her.
Her family and friends will greatly miss Phyllis, with her beautiful blue eyes, and her warm and welcoming smile.
In addition to her husband and parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her two sisters, Marilyn H. Moore and Sandra N. Herzog; and son-in-law, Fred Frantz.
She is survived by her two daughters, Sue Frantz of Greenwood, SC and Pam (Lan) Richart of Champaign, IL; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate the life of Phyllis Herzog Hartley will be held 10:00AM, Sunday, July 28, 2025, at Wesley Commons, 1110 Marshall Road, Greenwood, SC 29646. A second celebration of life service will be held 11:00AM, Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 501 Creswell Ave. E, Greenwood, SC 29646.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in memory of Phyllis, may be sent to the Providence Home, P.O. Box 11042, Southport, NC 28461.
