Philip C. Henry

Philip C. Henry, 86, of Greenwood, husband of Jo Ann Nelson Henry, died Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at his residence. He was born in Greenfield, Missouri, to the late Clifford Orland Henry and Marguerite Courtney Henry.

Mr. Henry, a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, served on the U.S.S. Rogers. He received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri and his Masters of Engineering from the University of South Florida. Mr. Henry was a Registered Professional Engineer and Florida Unlimited Electrical Contractor. He retired as Senior Vice-President of Florida Power Corporation after 32 years of dedicated service. In 1994, Mr. Henry received the IEEE Outstanding Engineer of the Year Award.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Abbeville and the Greenwood Amateur Radio Club.  Mr. Henry formerly held memberships with the Rotary Club of St. Petersburg West in Florida, Elmer O. Smith Lodge 307 F&AM, Scottish Rite Tampa Consistory, Egypt Temple Shrine AAONOMS, Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers, the Florida Power Club and the Amateur Radio Club.  He was Chairman of the Board of Northside Hospital & Heart Institute and St. Petersburg General Hospital and a volunteer with the Florida Meals on Wheels.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, William and Joanne Henry.

Mr. Henry held many outstanding service awards for his dedication to his country, his work and for his commitment to the community in which he lived. He is survived by the love of his life, wife, Jo Ann, of 60 years of the home; a daughter, Kathy Lynn Schulz and her husband, Peter, of Brandon, FL; a son, Dr. Brian Henry and his wife, Betsy, of Greenwood; five grandchildren, Stacey Schulz (Sarah), Justen Schulz (Amanda), Courtney McCormick (Ryan), Nelson Henry and Kimberly Henry; three great-grandchildren, Adelynn Rebecca Schulz, Evelynn Jo Ann Schulz and Ryan Rose McCormick; and two nephews, Bob Henry (Linda) and Jack Henry, all of Minnesota.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 NOON on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at Noon on Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jason Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with military honors.

The families are at their respective homes.
