Myrtle Burnette Chapman

Myrtle B. Chapman, 93, of Abbeville, wife of the late Leo Chapman, died Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Marchbanks Assisted Living and Memory Care Center in Anderson. She was born in Columbus, NC to the late E. S. Burnett, Sr., and Pearl T. Tallant Burnett.

Myrtle was employed with the Abbeville County School District at Wright Middle School in the lunch room for 23 years. Her work there was part of the daily life of the school community and reflected a steady commitment to those she served. Myrtle was a member of the Abbeville First Baptist Church and the Fidellas Sunday School class.

In addition to her husband, Leo, and parents, she was preceded in death by seven siblings, E. S. Burnett, Jr., James Burnette, Joseph Dean Burnett, Robert Burnett, Mary Suber, Grace Gilbert and Ann Ruff.

She is survived by her son, Darryl W. Chapman; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

There will be a memorial gathering on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 4:00PM in the Abbeville First Baptist Christian Life Center on Ellis Ave. She will be inurned in the Columbarium at M. J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery on Tues., September 8, 2026 at 10:00AM.

Myrtle Chapman will be remembered with respect and gratitude by those who knew her and shared in her life.
