Mildred Reiberg (Steiner)

Mildred M. Steiner Reiberg, 99, of Due West, SC, formerly of Lakeland, FL, died Monday, July 18, 2022 at her residence. She was born in Saginaw, Michigan, November 17, 1922 to the late Fred and Mabel Meggitt Steiner. Mildred was a 1941 graduate of Saginaw High School, where she met her future husband, Dale R. Reiberg. They were married February 14, 1944, at Jefferson Avenue Methodist Church in Saginaw, MI.

Mildred was formerly employed with Bell Telephone Co. as a supervisor. She retired from Clare Community Hospital in Clare, Michigan, as the Director of Volunteer Services and member of their Board of Directors. Mildred served on the Board of Garfield Memorial Library in Clare, Michigan for many years and volunteered at Lakeland Regional Hospital in Lakeland, Florida for 28 years.

A lady of many talents, she especially enjoyed sewing, knitting and gardening. As an accomplished artist, Mildred taught courses in painting and often won first place in many juried art shows. She was a serious bridge player and a member of First United Methodist Church in Lakeland, Florida.

In addition to her husband of 71 years and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth (Alice) Steiner, Robert (Buriel) Steiner, Don (Arlene) Steiner and James (Joanne) Steiner; sister and brother-in-law, Sadie (Clifford) Wight; two granddaughters, Patti Nickles and Kyle Thompson; son-in-law, James W. ‘Jimmy’ Knox; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rufus (Louise) Reiberg.

Mildred is survived by her daughter, Pamela Knox of Due West, SC; a granddaughter, Merry K. Hyman (Ken) of Hodges, SC; sister-in-law, Virginia Reiberg of Indianapolis, Indiana; many nieces and nephews in Michigan, Indiana, New York, Ohio, Florida, Washington State and Japan.

Burial will be in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
