Melvin Julian Clark, 83, of Abbeville, husband of Sarah Jean McKee Clark, died Monday, October 13, 2025 at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood. He was born in Abbeville to the late Hugh Allison Clark, Sr. and Thelma Gray Clark.
After graduating from Abbeville High School in the Class of 1960, he began his career as an electrician with CSX Railroad. He later furthered his education by earning a degree in Drafting and Design from Piedmont Technical College, where he went on to teach a drafting course. He was the owner and operator of M&S Heating and Cooling in Abbeville for a decade and eventually retired as Vice President of Multi-Family Construction after many years of service with General Heating and Air Conditioning.
A devoted member of Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church, Mr. Clark served faithfully as both trustee and elder. He found joy in teaching Sunday School and Youth Group, instilling valuable lessons in all who had the privilege of knowing him. As a long-time Mason with Clinton Lodge #3, his dedication to brotherhood and community service exemplified the values he held dear. He cherished spending time with friends and family, whether organizing an annual low-country boil, a tradition he maintained for over 30 years, camping with friends, or taking to the skies in recreational flight.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Alexander Gray ‘Aleck’ Clark.
Mr. Clark is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sarah Jean. In addition to his wife, he is survived by their three children: Andrea Lewis (David Kinard) of Abbeville; Melvin Clark, Jr. (Alissa) of Easley, and Christopher Clark (Lake) of Abbeville; a brother, Hugh A. Clark, Jr. (Ruth) of Fort Myers, Florida; seven grandchildren, Andy Bagwell (April), Michael Lewis (Natalie), Elliott, Isaac and Alex Clark, Katelyn Edge (Harrison), and Kaleb Smith; three great-grandchildren, Jade and Sidney Stone and Mahala Bagwell; and a great-great-granddaughter, Juliet Rose Stone.
The family will receive friends 12:30PM – 1:30PM, Friday, October 17, 2025, in the Fellowship Hall of Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church, 194 Hwy. 20, Abbeville, SC 29620. Funeral services will begin at 2:00PM in the Church sanctuary with Rev. Gordon Tubbs and Rev. Wayne Wicker officiating.
