Max Harmon Suber

Max Harmon Suber, 98, of Abbeville, husband of the late Thelma Louise Newell Suber, died Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in McCormick to the late William Russell and Willie Mayze Below Suber.

Our ‘Mr. Max’, referred to quite often as ‘The Real Deal’, went home to meet his Maker.  He was a simple man who worked hard and lived by the simple basics – you don’t lie, cheat or steal.  ‘Mr. Max’ stood firmly on all three.  He was strong in his faith and cherished his family and friends.

‘Mr. Max’ proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII.  After leaving the Navy, he was associated with Harris Funeral Home.  Later, he was employed with Milliken & Co., retiring after 35 years.  ‘Mr. Max’ was a devoted member of the Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church for more than 75 years.  He taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, served as a Deacon, an Elder, and also on the pulpit committee.  He was a Mason with membership in the Clinton Masonic Lodge # 3.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Andrew Russell Suber; three brothers, Alroy, Gillis, and Nick Suber; and five sisters, Violet Wright, Doris Hanes, Christine Rhodes, Marion Griner and Sarah Beaty.

‘Mr. Max’ was married to his late wife, Thelma, for 67 years.  He is survived by a daughter, Gail S. Begley of Simpsonville; a son, Edward Harmon Suber of Abbeville; three grandchildren, Casi Begley Camacho (Israel), Matthew Thomas Begley and Heather Suber Campbell (Joey); a great-grandchild, Sally Campbell; a sister, Fay Broome; and many special nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 1:00PM – 2:00PM, Saturday, November 16, 2019 in the Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.  Funeral services will begin at 2:30PM in the church sanctuary with Rev. Wayne Wicker and Rev. Vikki Brogden officiating.  Burial, with Masonic and Military Honors, will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
