Mary Helen Slay Latham Smith

Mary Helen Smith, 85, resident of Abbeville Nursing Home widow of Milton Smith passed away Sunday Sept. 6, 2009 at the nursing home.

Born in Abbeville, SC she was a daughter of the late Steve A. Slay and Sally Turman Slay.

She was twice married first to the late Ira P. Latham.

She was a retired homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include 2 sons Ira P. "Butch" Latham of Iva, SC and George Morgan Smith of Ware Shoals, SC; 1 sister Viola Smith and her husband Frank of Abbeville, SC; 3 brothers William F. Slay and his wife Shirley of Hodges, SC, Johnny Slay and his wife Carolyn of Greenwood, SC and Tommy Slay and his wife Susan of Abbeville, SC; 1 grandchild and 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday Sept. 9, 2009 at 3:00 PM at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Earl Hartley officiating. The burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery.

The body is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM Wednesday afternoon prior to services.
