Mary Anne Smith Tafta

Mary Andrea Smith Tafta, 82, of Lexington, formerly of Abbeville, wife of the late Daniel ‘Danny’ Fletcher Tafta, died Friday, September 11, 2026, at NHC Lexington. She was born in Anderson to the late Edward Wood Smith and Montie Pearson Smith.

Mary Anne, as she was affectionately known, was a 1962 graduate of Abbeville High School and later attended Winthrop College. She devoted her working life to Reelco of Abbeville, Inc. where she served as an Administrative Associate. Mary Anne retired after 35 years of dedicated service, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and faithful work. She was a member of Abbeville Presbyterian Church. Her memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Darrell Smith and William Franklin ‘Smitty’ Smith; and a son-in-law, David VanWey.

Mary Anne is survived by her children, Steven Randolph ‘Randy’ Tafta (Wanda) and Susan Tafta VanWey; six grandchildren, Jerod Tafta (Jordan), Steven Tafta (Lacie), Nicholas Tafta, Heather Dominick, Noah Dominick and Kamryn Heisig (Tavin); and six great-grandchildren, Elias Tafta, Ruby Tafta, Phineas Tafta, Ira Tafta, Willow Tafta and Baylor Tafta.

The family will receive friends 2:00PM to 3:00PM, Monday, September 14, 2026 at Harris Funeral Home, 302 N. Main Street, Abbeville, SC. Funeral services will begin at 3:00PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Gordon Tubbs officiating. A private family burial will be held in Long Cane Cemetery.
