Marion Small Bacot

Marion ‘Mishie’ Ware Small Bacot died peacefully on December 20 at the Hospice House in Greenwood.  She was the daughter of the late Robert Arnold Small and Martha Ware Pitts Small.  Mishie grew up in Columbia, South Carolina, attended Columbia city schools, and graduated from Dreher High School in 1961.  She earned an associate's degree from Winthrop in 1963. She met John Spratt Bacot on a blind date in January of 1961, and they were married in 1963.  Their marriage was one of an extrovert and an introvert, somehow lasting over 60 years. With John serving as a Presbyterian minister, they shared a life of travel, meeting new people, and adjusting to new places - which required a great deal of patience and preparation by Mishie and the family.  The family resided in South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, and North Carolina.

Mishie was always up to the task at hand.  She was a perfect hostess in the family home for many folks and was known for being a wonderful cook.  Some of her other known talents and hobbies included sewing, quilting, painting, belly dancing, carpentry, teaching how to water ski - all while making sure that meals were prepared for the sick and widowed during the holidays and for normal church suppers.  Mishie led Vacation Bible School for over 20 years.  She mothered three exchange students from Australia, South Africa, and Sweden - these ladies became a part of the family.

Mishie was a person of a quiet Christian Faith.  She was a person of few words but did the right thing in her family and church life.  Our lives were blessed and enriched by a loving, forgiving, and encouraging wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She had favorites - all of them!

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased in death by her son, John Spratt Bacot, Jr. and her brother Robert Arnold Small, Jr.

She is survived by her husband (John), son Adam (Lori) Bacot, daughter Marion (Mitch) Clodfelter, and grandchildren Mason Bacot, Alex Bacot, Kate Clodfelter, Sarah Holland Bacot, Cole (Cassie) Bacot, and great-grandchildren Sarah Grace Bacot, Joy Lynn Bacot, and Hope Holland Bacot.  God is good!
