Margaret Mae Shores Dickert, 84, of Due West, SC, wife of Winford Eugene Dickert, Jr., died Sunday, June 8, 2025, at her home. She was born in Clifton Forge, VA to the late William Felton Shores and Mae Estelle Miller Shores.
Her educational journey began at Chowan College in Murfreesboro, NC where she earned her Associate of Arts degree in 1968 followed by her Bachelor of Arts degree from Erskine College in 1976. She continued her studies, obtaining her Master of Arts degree from Clemson University in 1986 and an additional 30 graduate hours with a concentration in English and Writing in 1998.
Margaret dedicated 22 years to teaching English at Dixie High School, where she inspired many students from 1981 until her retirement in 2003. She was recognized in 1988 as the runner-up for Teacher of the Year for the Abbeville County School District. Her favorite quote was “If you say you are going to do something; do it to the best of your ability or don’t say you are going to do it at all.”
Margaret was active in her community, contributing time and energy to the Due West Lion’s Club and the Due West Book Club. She found joy in ballroom dancing, reading, solving puzzles, enjoying music and baking delightful cakes to share with loved ones. Margaret was a member of Belton Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Eugene, of the home; three sons, John Farley (Dr. Norma Kirkland Farley), Bryan Farley (Stephanie Ponder Farley) and David Figley; five grandchildren, Georgia Kirkland, Cole Farley, Wren Farley, Anna Farley and Ashley Kotto; three great-grandchildren; brother, David Shores (Debra) of Clifton Forge, VA; two sisters, Joyce Gordon of Rocky Mount, VA and Beth Travis of Midlothian, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Margaret’s life will be 2:00PM, Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Belton Presbyterian Church, 405 Jim Russell Way, Belton, SC 29627 with Rev. Will Delaney and Rev. Dr. John LeHeup officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions in memory of Margaret may be sent to Belton Presbyterian Church, 405 Jim Russell Way, Belton, SC 29627.
