Julius Marvin King, Jr., 88, of Abbeville, husband of Gale Brown King, died Friday, July 18, 2025, at his home. He was born in Abbeville to the late Julius Marvin King, Sr. and Lillian Lee Dansby King.
Julius graduated from Abbeville High School, Class of 1955, where he developed friendships that lasted a lifetime. He cherished these bonds, often attending breakfast gatherings with his classmates. His love for his alma mater extended to the passion he showed for Abbeville sports, especially in supporting his grandsons’ various sporting events and cheering on the Abbeville High School Panther football team. He was also an enthusiastic Clemson Tiger fan.
Julius was the owner and operator of King Country Store during the 80’s. He retired from the South Carolina Employment Security Commission after many years of dedicated service. Julius commitment to his work was only matched by his proud service in the South Carolina Army National Guard, where he honorably retired as a Master Sergeant in April 1984.
He was an active member of the community, participating in several organizations, including Clinton Masonic Lodge #3 and the American Legion Post 2. Julius was also a member of the Abbeville Veteran’s Memorial Foundation, where he served as chaplain. As a member of these organizations, he found camaraderie among his fellow members and a shared commitment to honoring those who served their country. He was also a dedicated Mason having received his 60-year pin.
Julius faith was a guiding force in his life. He was a devoted member of Bells Chapel GMC where he formerly served as Sunday School superintendent, choir member and member of the adult fellowship class.
In addition, Julius cherished his family, whose companionship brought him countless moments of joy and fulfillment. He will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In addition to his parents, Julius was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Lynwood King and David Thompson King; three sisters, Frances King Rose, Dorthy King Abbott and Alice Belle King Busbee; and grandson, Jed Smith.
Julius is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gale; his children, Denise King Crockett; Theresa G. Mabry and Susan Gwen Mabry Thompson, all of Abbeville; four grandchildren, Kale (Meg Owens), Cody, Matthew and Andrew; two great-grandchildren, Kenna and Ember; and his mother-in-law, Jackie Brown McCurry (Bobby).
