Josephine L. Wilson

Josephine Lewis “Jo” Wilson, 92, of Greenwood, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Monday, May 25, 2026.

Born on September 25, 1933, in “the Nation” community of Abbeville County, she was the devoted daughter of the late Joe Earl and Rosa Tommie Campbell Lewis and the beloved wife of the late William Boyce Wilson.

Jo graduated from Lowndesville High School, where she discovered her love of mathematics. She continued to express her passion for math over the years by working for multiple Upstate banks, competing in various bridge clubs and performing notoriously meticulous bookkeeping.

A devout Methodist, Jo lived by Psalms 118:24: “This is a day the Lord hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” She was a member of both Bells Chapel in the Nation and Main Street United Methodist Church in Greenwood. Jo demonstrated the Lord’s love through her commitment to helping others and served as Worthy Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star in Clinton, South Carolina.

Jo’s favorite role was grandmother. “Nannie Jo,” as her granddaughters called her, hosted frequent sleepovers, taught them how to play cards and conquered her fear of flying to travel around the country with them.

Jo was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her four siblings: Dr. Horace Lewis, Frances “Frankie” Lewis Cain, Tobitha Lewis Ellis, and Roy Campbell Lewis.

She is survived by her daughter, Rosann Wilson Jones, and her son-in-law, W. Townes Jones, IV, of Ware Shoals, South Carolina; four granddaughters Gilland, Townes Adair, Isabella, and Campbell; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Jo was adored by all who knew her. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her kindness, affability, contagious sense of humor and delicious chocolate pies. They aim to follow the example set by her full, virtuous life.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support Jo received. They are especially thankful for her faithful caregivers Peggy Drennon and Lottie Drennon Seigler.

A service to celebrate Jo’s life will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Bells Chapel, 2540 Flat Rock Road, Abbeville, SC 29620. A reception to greet family and friends will immediately follow in the fellowship hall at Bells.

Memorial contributions in memory of Josephine may be sent to the Bells Chapel Fellowship Hall Fund, 2540 Flat Rock Rd. Abbeville, SC 29620 or to the Main Street United Methodist Church, 211 Main St. North, Greenwood, SC 29646.
