Joseph E. 'Joe' Strawhorn

Joseph E. ‘Joe’ Strawhorn, 85, of Greenwood, died Monday, August 24, 2026, at his home. He was born in Abbeville to the late James Robert Strawhorn and Letitia Maynard Strawhorn. Joe was twice married, first to the late Rachel Strawhorn and second, to the late Dawn Scott Strawhorn.

Joe built his career at Greenwood Mills, where he retired after 42 years of dedicated service. Following his retirement, he continued to share his work ethic by joining Haddon’s Landscaping, lending his skills and experience to help beautify his surroundings. Joe found great enjoyment in simpler pleasures, particularly deer hunting when he was able. He was known throughout his life for his steadfast commitment to hard work and his quiet dedication to his family and community.

In addition to his wives and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael E. Wells; two brothers, James William and Eugene Strawhorn; three sisters, Dot Strawhorn Simmons, Rose Strawhorn Hart and Frances Strawhorn Wilson; and son-in-law, Bryan Harris.

Joe is survived by three children, Billy Wells (Amanda) of Ninety-Six, Ann Harris, and Debbie Harris (David), all of Whitmire; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sara Strawhorn of Hodges; and his beloved pet, Evvie.

The family will receive friends 1:00PM – 2:00PM, Friday, August 28, 2026, at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville Chapel, 302 N. Main Street, Abbeville, SC. Funeral services will begin at 2:00PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Billy Jo Paradise and Pastor Billy Wells officiating. Burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery.
