Joseph Barry ‘Bear’ Creswell,79, husband of Cheryl Stickles Creswell, died Sunday, April 26, 2026 at his home. He was born in Abbeville to the late Joseph Meadows and Ouida Adams Creswell.
A 1965 graduate of Abbeville High School, Barry attended Clemson University. He dedicated 37 years as a Conductor and Instructor with CSX Railroad, demonstrating commitment and professionalism throughout his tenure. Barry was an active member of New Grace Church and served as a Mason with the Clinton Masonic Lodge in Abbeville for over 50 years. Known as the patriarch of his family, he was a source of guidance and strength in both joyful and challenging times. Barry was cherished by family and friends for his warmth, wit, intelligence, and generosity. He lived a life marked by dedication to family, community, and career.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved pet, Bigg Dogg.
Barry is survived by his wife of 59 years, of the home; their children, Aaron Joseph Creswell (Angie), Paul Abram Creswell and April Creswell Martin; a brother, Steve Creswell (Erna); two sisters, Vickie Roller (Ronnie) and Renee Creswell (Diana); five grandchildren, Brandon Creswell, Dylan Martin (Katelyn), Catherine Chase Martin (Ethan), Ashlie Creswell (Landon) and Hunter Creswell; eight great-grandchildren, Ava Grace, Lilly, Mason, Kellan, Kaynan, Camden, Charlotte and Skylan.
A service to celebrate Barry’s life will be 11:00AM Thursday, April 30, 2026 in the Abbeville First Baptist Church CLC with Rev. Matt Turner officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
