John Frank 'Hippie' Greer

John Frank ‘Hippie’ Greer, 76, of Abbeville, husband of Marie Cobb Greer, died Sunday, June 23, 2024, at his home. He was born in Anderson to the late Frank Roland and Katie Mattison Greer.

Known fondly as ‘Hippie’ to many, Johnny was a graduate of Abbeville High School, Class of 1965. Following high school, he served in the SC National Guard before embarking on a long and fulfilling career with the CSX Railroad, retiring after 40 years as a conductor. Johnny touched the lives of many with his hard work and dedication towards others. He was a member of South Side Baptist Church.

Johnny is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marie, of the home; son, Jay Greer of Abbeville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Graveside services will be 10:00AM, Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Rev. Dr. Joel Bradberry officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
