John R. Giles, 80, of Greenwood, SC, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Prisma Health Greenville. Born in Greenwood to the late John V. ‘JV’ Giles and Helen Louise Young Giles.
A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Giles served during the Vietnam War and was honored with two Bronze Star medals. Following his military service, he enjoyed a dedicated career with Eaton before retiring. He was an active member of Ebenezer Methodist Church in Abbeville, where he was cherished by his fellow congregants.
Mr. Giles also participated in the Emerald City Cruisers and found joy in woodworking and automotive restoration, reflecting his hands-on spirit and passion for craftsmanship.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two children, Trevor Giles and Dickie Chrisley as well as a brother, James Giles, and a sister, Sherry Ann Davis.
Mr. Giles is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sandra Erwin Giles; his children Cody Bill Giles (Lindsay) of Abbeville, John Edward Giles of Hilton Head, and Stacy Lumpkin (Renee) of Abbeville; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Ebenezer Methodist Church Cemetery in Abbeville.
