John Cecil Folk Jr.

July 31, 1945 — June 17, 2020

John Cecil Folk, Jr., of Abbeville, died Wednesday, June 17, 2020.  He was born to the late Cecil and Lois Folk of Williston, SC in 1945.

John graduated from Williston-Elko High School and received a B.S. degree in Agricultural Education from the University of Georgia.  He was employed with Clemson Extension for several years and taught science and agriculture for over 30 years.  John completed his teaching career at the John De La Howe school and Long Cane Academy in McCormick.  A lifelong farmer, he was active in the Abbeville and McCormick County Cattlemen and Forestry Associations.  John was also a longtime supporter of Farm City Days and the Woodland Clinic held at John De La Howe school.  For many years, he served as a member and elder of the Willington Presbyterian Church.

A kind, loving and devoted father and grandfather, John was preceded in death by his sisters, Lois Folk Williams and Joanne Chambers.  He leaves behind a sister, Joyce Hollingsworth, four children, four grandchildren, family and friends and a true love of agriculture in the lives of many whom he influenced.

The family will receive friends from 10:00AM – 11:00AM, Friday, June 19, 2020 at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville Chapel.  Funeral services will begin at 11:00AM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Lee P. Kennerly officiating.  Graveside services will be held at 4:00PM on Friday in The Williston Cemetery, 2600 Lake Drive, Williston, SC 29853.

The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the health care staff that have been so compassionate in helping to care for John.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be sent to The Woodland Clinic, 6717 Hwy. 25N, Hodges, SC 29653 or to Abbeville County EMS, 903 West Greenwood Street Suite 2700, Abbeville, SC 29620.

Due to the current pandemic and the CDC regulations, social distancing and other guidelines will be in place. The graveside service will be live-streamed on our Official Folk Funeral Home - Live Stream Facebook page for those unable to attend.
