Joe Hoyt James

Joseph Hoyt James, 59, husband of Kelly Mundy James, of Abbeville died Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at his home. He was born in Abbeville to the late Alex Hoyt James and Corene Yeargin Smith.

Joe graduated from Abbeville High School, class of 1978. He was an outdoorsman, finding contentment in camping, nature and in all outdoor activities. Joe, known as a capable and willing caregiver, always first thought of others. He held his family close in his heart. Joe was a member of Keowee Baptist Church.

In addition to parents, Joe was preceded in death by a brother, Alex Hoyt James, Jr. and sister-in-law, Jan Burton James.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Kelly, of the home; a son, Levi James (Cassidy) of Abbeville; a brother, Mike James, of Iva; a sister, Karen Jordan (Robert), of Calhoun Falls; grandsons, Dylan and Jacob James; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Tiny.

The family will receive friends 1:00PM – 2:30PM, Friday, August 9, 2019 at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 3:00PM in the funeral home chapel with Mr. Marvin Stoll officiating.
