JoAnna Queen Kennedy

JoAnna Queen Kennedy, 90, wife of the late Donald Anderson ‘Don’ Kennedy, Sr., died Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the Lakelands Nursing Home in Abbeville, SC. She was born in Massillon, OH to the late Creod and Margaret Alexander Queen. Mrs. Kennedy’s father died when she was very young and her mother subsequently married, Mr. Dempsey Shepherd of Benton, Illinois.

Mrs. Kennedy moved from Benton at the age of 17 to attend Erskine College because her uncle, Gene Alexander, was the head basketball coach there. She was a proud alumna of Erskine College, graduating in 1956. Mrs. Kennedy furthered her studies with a Master’s degree from Clemson University in 1978. She dedicated an impressive 31 years to public education in Abbeville, Due West and Greenwood. Her impact extended far beyond the classroom, touching the lives of students and colleagues who had the privilege of knowing her. Mrs. Kennedy found joy in various hobbies and interests. She was a member of the Garden Club, Book Club, Bridge Club and Lion’s Club – where she found lasting friendships and made valuable contributions to her community. Mrs. Kennedy was a member of the Due West ARP Church.

She is survived by her son, Donald Anderson ‘Andy’ Kennedy, Jr and his wife, Bree Routman Kennedy of Hilton Head Island, SC; daughter, Patricia ‘Patt’ Anne Kennedy Loggins and her husband, Michael Gene Loggins of W. Columbia, SC; and four grandchildren, Bridget Mae Kennedy, Donald Anderson ‘Anders’ Kennedy, III, Laird Sullivan Kennedy and Elliott Louise Kennedy.

A celebration of Mrs. Kennedy’s life will be 1:30PM, Saturday, June 29, 2024, at The Renaissance in Due West, SC with Rev. Scott Moore officiating.
