William James ‘Jim’ Merrifield, Jr., 79, of Greenwood, loving husband of Beth Davenport Merrifield, died Friday, May 2, 2025, at Self Regional Healthcare. He was born in Fairmont, West Virginia, to the late William J. Merrifield, Sr. and Mary Olive Underwood Andrews.

A proud graduate of Fairmount High School, Mr. Merrifield valiantly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He dedicated 42 years of his professional life to Century Link in Greenwood, SC. Following his retirement, he continued to work with Big A Automotive and devoted much of his time to cultivating and caring for his cherished lawn.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Jo Tedder.

He is survived by his beloved wife Beth, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage; two sons, William J. 'Jay' Merrifield, III of Greenwood, Joe Merrifield (Yvette) of Abbeville; and a sister, Virginia Lee Denson of Nashville, TN; four grandchildren, Amanda Rose Stallard, Molly Merrifield, Nikki Stanley, and Tommy Thomasson, Jr. (Taylor); and two great-grandchildren, Brysen Singh and Emmalyn Thomasson.

At this time, no services are planned. Friends wishing to honor Mr. Merrifield's memory may make memorial contributions to Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646, or to a charity of their choice.
