Javier Macias Oñate

Javier Macias Oñate, 75, of Abbeville, SC, husband of Esperanza Alvarez, died Thursday, November 13, 2025 at his home. Born February 9, 1950 in San Jose de la Paz, Jalisco, Mexico, he was the son of the late Febronio Oñate and Maria Macias Oñate.

After years of devoted service in the mechanics industry, Javier retired as an accomplished entrepreneur in business, leaving a lasting impact on those who worked with him and benefitted from his guidance and mentorship.

Javier is survived by his wife of 52 years, Esperanza; six children, Javier Oñate, Jr., Gilbert Oñate (Marie), Maria Isabel Caballer (Richard), Esmeralda Vandessppoll (Nevin), Andres Oñate (Melisa) and Marisol Arellano (Sergio); seven siblings, Elva Montes (Jose), Francisco Oñate (Armida), Celia Cordero (Jose), Berta Ayala (Rigoberto), Juan Oñate (Digna), Antonio Oñate (Megan) and Hector Oñate (Raquel); sixteen grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends.

Javier leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come, a testament to a life well-lived and a spirit that will never be forgotten.

The family will receive friends from 5:00PM to 7:00PM on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Harris Funeral Home, 302 N. Main St. Abbeville, SC. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Oñate will be 2:00PM, Monday, November 24, 2025,. at Harris Funeral Home. A reception will follow at The Terrace, 137 Highland Terrace, Abbeville, SC 29620. A private family burial will be in the Oñate Family Cemetery.
