Janie Beasley Bowie

Janie Beasley Bowie, age 89, of Abbeville, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the Lakelands Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Marvin Rayford ‘Mott’ Bowie and was born in Abbeville to the late Robert ‘Junior’ and Ella Hodges Beasley.

Mrs. Bowie was employed for many years at the Abbeville Shirt Plant and was a member of Lebanon Presbyterian Church. She was known for her exceptional baking skills, often delighting family and friends by baking and decorating cakes for various occasions. Gardening was another of her cherished pastimes, and she enjoyed tending to her yard and flowers.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, John Calvin Bowie and Allen Bowie; three brothers, Junior Beasley, Howard Beasley, and Calvin Pressley; and a sister, Eunice Ashley.

She is survived by a son, Reid Bowie (Sherry) and a daughter, Amanda ‘Mandy’ Bowie, all of Abbeville; a sister, Sarah O’Dell of Cokesbury, SC; seven grandchildren, Michael Bowie (Tracy), Jeremy Bowie (Lindsey), Derek Bowie (Penny), Jonathan Bowie, Lindsey Wilson (Josh), Kayla Bowie (Daniel) and Shawn Bowie; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 11:00AM to 12:00Noon on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at Harris Funeral Home, 302 N. Main St. Abbeville. Graveside services will be on Thursday beginning at 12:30PM in Melrose Cemetery.
