James Edward Copelan, 84, resident of 246 P-N Ave. husband of Mary Ann Hill passed away Wednesday Dec. 30, 2015 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood, SC.
Born in Hard Labor Creek, Georgia he was a son of the late William Marion Copelan, Sr. and Estelle Welborn Copelan.
James was a former member of the Abbeville National Guard. He was the owner and operator of Copelan's Exxon Station for many years in Abbeville, SC. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Due West, SC.
Survivors include his wife Mary Ann Hill Copelan of the home; one son Ivan Copelan of Los Angeles, CA; one daughter Angie Bourne of Abbeville, SC; four step-daughters; four step-sons; three brothers, Ray Copelan of Abbeville, SC, Ronnie Copelan of Simpsonville, SC and Charlie Copelan of Easley, SC; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother William Marion Copelan, Jr. and a son Larry Edward Copelan and a daughter Linda Dianne Godfrey.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of James will be conducted Saturday Jan. 2, 2016 at 2:00 PM in New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Ashley officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM in the social Hall at New Hope Baptist Church prior to services at 2:00 PM. The family is at their respective homes.
