Howell Williamson, 91, of Easley, SC, husband of Ruth Cox Williamson, died Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at his home. He was born in Toombs County, GA to the late Clayton Festus and Gertrude Williamson.
Mr. Williamson was a 1952 graduate of Kibbee High School, Kibbee, GA. He proudly served four years in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Mr. Williamson was attached to the Atomic Energy Control (AEC) and notably involved in the hydrogen bomb experiment in the South Pacific. Following his military service, he found fulfillment in a long and successful civil service career at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, GA until his well-deserved retirement.
Mr. Williamson was an enthusiast of various hobbies and interests. He took pleasure in bird hunting, especially for quail. He loved training and working with his English Setters, and he also enjoyed fly fishing. Additionally, his talent for woodworking was evident through his skillful restoration of antique furniture. Mr. Williamson was of the Methodist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Ray Williamson, Clyde Williamson, Earl Williamson, Festus Williamson, Jr. and sisters, Syble Fountain and Reba Callahan.
Mr. Williamson is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Ruth, of the home; son, William Howell ‘Bill’ Williamson (Karen) of Easley, SC; grandson, Jacob Daniel Williamson of New Bern, NC; sister, Doris Burnette of Fayetteville, GA; four nephews and one niece.
Graveside services with military honors will be 3:00 PM, Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the Lower Long Cane ARP Church Cemetery, 1591 Long Cane Road, Troy, SC 29848 with Rev. Eldridge Kelley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorials be made to Lower Long Cane ARP Church, PO Box 117, Troy, SC 29848.
