Helen E. Speer, age 84, of Abbeville, passed away at her home in Belton on December 29, 2025. She was born in Abbeville to the late Beverly Henry and Eva Cann Speer.
Helen attended Abbeville County Schools. She dedicated her professional life to serving her community through her work at The Monsanto Plant and Abbeville Nursing Home, from which she retired from both after many years of service. A member of Main Street Methodist Church in Abbeville, she also attended Mt. Bethal Baptist Church in Belton. Helen actively participated in numerous organizations, contributing her time and talents to the Abbeville Chamber of Commerce, the Burt Stark Historical Preservation Commission as a docent, and the American Red Cross. Additionally, she was involved with the Agnes Rogers Circle at Main Street Methodist Church and formerly served on the Worship Committee.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Beverly Willis, Alice Ashley and Hazel Speer, as well as two brothers, Baker Speer and Lewis Speer.
She is survived by her brother, Ben Speer (Carol) of Abbeville; special great-nieces, Katie Stone (TJ), Tonya Hughes (Alan), and Tiffany Mills; close friends, Dawne Hersberger and family, Cindy Simpson, Cecil McFarland, and Pam Hanks; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation at Harris Funeral Home on Saturday, January 3, 2026, from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM. The funeral service will follow at 3:30 PM in the chapel, officiated by the Rev. Brandon Fulmer. Interment will take place at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family is at the home in Belton.
