Helen G. "Meadows" Perkins

October 9, 1943 — October 2, 2019

Helen Meadows Perkins, 75, of North Augusta died Wednesday morning, October 2, 2019, after an extended illness. She was born in Colbert, Georgia to the late Rev. Henry Thomas Meadows and Rovie Rogers Meadows. Helen grew up in Augusta, Georgia and Abbeville, South Carolina. She was a graduate of Abbeville High School, class of 1961.

Helen was a homemaker who fiercely loved her three children. She also loved nature and being outdoors. Spending time at the Savannah River with her best friend Charlie Lynn was her favorite pastime. Helen shared Charlie’s keen interest in beekeeping and ultimately managed her own hive. She also loved walking on the beach and adventures in the mountains.

A voracious reader, Helen could always be found with a good book in her hand. She was also an active member of the North Augusta Red Hat Club, enjoyed taking art classes with her sister Jean, and playing bridge and back-up with her friends. Helen had many lifelong friendships and loved spending time with her friends and her family.

Helen is survived by one sister, Jean Dupree (Cecil Dupree); her children Rhett Simpson (Lisa), Dena George (Karen), and Thomas Perkins; her grandchildren, Josh Rhett Simpson (Nicole), Tara Beth Simpson (Timothy), and William George; her greatgrandchildren, Clay Simpson, Tucker Simpson, Trinity Henderson, and Coleton Simpson; her best friend and steadfast companion Charlie Lynn, and numerous other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Clara B. Luke, Irene Hansel Chastain, and Georgia Meadows Holiday; and one brother, Henry Holbert Meadows.

In keeping with Helen’s wishes, a service to celebrate her life will be held on the Savannah River in North Augusta and her ashes will be spread on the gravesites of her beloved parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to the Visitation Fund of Congregational Holiness Church, PO Box 946, Abbeville SC, 29620. This fund was used to provide care for Helen and is used to provide meals for members of the Abbeville community.
