Gene Kalehua Stanton

November 10, 1943 — July 26, 2022

Gene Kalehua Stanton, 78, of McCormick, SC, husband of Giesela Hachenburger Stanton, died Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at the Hospice House in Greenwood, SC. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to the late Arthur D. and Martha Bolster Stanton.

Mr. Stanton attended Kailua High School in Honolulu. Following High School, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy for three years. Mr. Stanton then enlisted in the United States Army for seventeen years, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. He retired from the army while stationed at Fort Gordon. Following retirement, he was employed with the Civil Service for many years.

Mr. Stanton enjoyed watching old movies, playing cards and had a fondness and appreciation for animals. He could often be found on the golf course. A member of the Hawaiian Club in Augusta, GA and the American Legion Post 19 in McCormick, SC, he was of the Episcopalian faith. His family held a special place in his heart.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Melfred Lum and Stanley Lum and his beloved dog, Rags and cat, Missy and son’s dog, Kia.

Mr. Stanton is survived by his wife of 46 years, Giesela; his son, Andy Stanton of Grovetown, GA; four sisters, Beverly Garcia of Pearl City, HI, Kay Phillips of Waipahu, HI, Noelene Low of California and Sharon Apo (Ralph) of Waimanalo, HI; and his son’s fur baby, Bella, which he called ‘Chocolate’; special friends and neighbors, Tom and Debbie Popejoy, Han Gargie and Fred and Connie Pauer, who loved and cared for him and his wife during his battle with dementia for many years; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family extends their sincere appreciation to the Hospice House, their staff, nurses and doctors, who were such angels.
