Frederick Lewis "Fred" Carroll
August 2, 1941 — January 13, 2019
Frederick ‘Fred’ Lewis Carroll, 77, husband of Sandra James Carroll, of Abbeville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the Hospice House in Greenwood. He was born in Bluefield, WV to the late Cecil Alan Richard Carroll and Lyda Aliff Carroll.
Fred retired from the Abbeville Nursing Home with over 20 years of dedicated service. Prior to relocating to South Carolina, he owned and operated Jonesville Garment Company in Virginia. Being an enthusiastic outdoorsman, Fred enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and gardening. Golf was one of his favorite hobbies. He was a former Mason and a member of Jonesville First Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by a brother, Thorton Carroll.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sandra, of the home; his son, Paul Carroll (Kathy), of Ninety Six; step-granddaughters, Carla Bryan and Kristie Kennedy; his daughter, Vanessa Oaks, of Abbeville; three grandsons, Adam, Alex and Noah Oaks; his son-in-law, Gary Oaks, of Abbeville; step-granddaughter, Madison Davis; three sisters, Elizabeth Burchett Heath (Howard), of Madison, OH, Arnetta Davidson (Jim), of Bluefield, WV, and Nancy Yatabe, of Illinois; and a wide circle of extended family and dear friends, including Alan Hughes and Cecile McFarland.
A service to celebrate Fred’s life will be 4:30PM, Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville Chapel, with the Rev. Earl Hartley officiating. The family invites you to come dressed comfortably and casually. They will receive friends immediately following the service.
