Elmer Fleming

Elmer Eugene Fleming, 83, of Abbeville, husband of Jean Perry Fleming, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2025, at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood. Born in Abbeville County, he was the son of the late Bert and Ola Todd Fleming.

A 1961 graduate of Dixie High School, Elmer retired from Rocky River Mills after more than 40 years of dedicated service as the Dye House Clerk. He was an enthusiastic Abbeville High School Football fan. It was not uncommon for him to set his chair out early the morning of game day. Elmer was a member of Rice Memorial Baptist Church and the Outreach Sunday School class. He loved his family more than anything and will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Fleming and Dwane Fleming and his wife, Thelma; and a sister, Ellen Gambrell Martin.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Jean, of the home; two sons, Tracy Eugene Fleming (Madge) of Greenville and Michael Anthony Fleming (Stacey) of Calhoun Falls; brother, Louie Fleming (Edna) of Level Land; and three grandchildren, Perry Fleming, Erica Rutledge (Ryan) and Zach Fleming (fianceé, Kelly); and a sister-in-law, Judy Fleming.

Graveside services will be 3:30PM, Monday, December 29, 2025, in Melrose Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Dale Levan officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.

The family expresses their sincere gratitude to Dr. Allan P. Turner and staff for their love and care.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions, in memory of Elmer, be sent to Rice Memorial Baptist Church, 1975 SC-72, Greenwood, SC 29649.
