Carlton Edward ‘Ed’ Rothwell, 81, of Greenwood, beloved husband of Barbara ‘Bonnie’ Miller Rothwell, died Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood. He was born in Martinsville, VA to the late Edward Kidman Rothwell, II and Mary Elizabeth Coles Rothwell and lived most of his adult life in Richmond, VA.
Ed earned an associate degree from A-B Technical College in Asheville, NC, followed by a Bachelor of Science degree from Liberty University. He was employed as a chemical lab technician at LabCorp for many years. Ed was not only a professional but also a devoted member of The Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Greenwood, where he was well-respected as an elder. His involvement in the church's Men's Ministry highlighted his dedication to service and community. Ed was known for being a godly man, continually seeking wisdom and understanding through study and literature that enriched his character and spirit. Those who had the privilege of knowing Ed will remember him as a quiet man whose thoughts carried weight; when he spoke, people listened. His wise and compassionate nature served as an encouragement to many, embodying traits that inspired those around him to strive for greater heights.
Ed is survived by his wife of 27 years, Bonnie, of the home; step-daughter, Amy (Harold) Philbrick; four grandchildren, Wilson, McKinley, Pierce and Hayes Philbrick; sister, Ruth Wassum; several nieces; a nephew; and his beloved cats, Charlie and Lizzie Rose.
Funeral services will be 2:00PM, Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at The Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Greenwood, 1635 Cokesbury Rd, Greenwood, SC 29649 with The Reverend Todd McCoy officiating. A private family burial will be in Cedar Springs ARP Church Cemetery.
