Donald Wayne Gilmer, 80, of Calhoun Falls, husband of Linda Pearson Gilmer, died Sunday, May 11, 2025, at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood. He was born in Abbeville to the late Jim Bert Gilmer and Helen Norrell Gilmer.
Wayne attended Calhoun Falls High School. His career was characterized by his industrious spirit. He worked as an electrician at Burlington Mill in Calhoun Falls and also had a notable career in the granite profession. A man of many talents, Wayne possessed a profound love for music. Whether he was playing guitar, piano or bass guitar, his melodies were not merely sounds but echoes of his soul. Music was a cherished means of connecting with his family and with others, sharing moments of celebration and comfort alike. In addition to music, his pets provided him much happiness. Wayne was an active member of Calhoun Falls Pentecostal Holiness Church where he was a Deacon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Lamar Keith Gilmer; and siblings, Bobby Gilmer, Myra Jean Land and Phyllis Deal.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda, of the home; son, Chris Gilmer and daughter-in-law, Sherry Gilmer of Greenville; eight siblings, Trudy (Don) Fry of Abbeville, Wanda Gail (David) Land of Greenwood, Eddie Dean Gilmer, Roger Dale (Tempie) Gilmer all of Abbeville, Kathy (Steve) Willner of Ninety Six, Ken Gilmer, Pam (George) Norris all of Abbeville and Tammie (Tommy) Taylor of Greenwood; and numerous extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends 2:00PM – 3:00PM, Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Calhoun Falls Pentecostal Holiness Church. A celebration of Wayne’s life will begin at 3:00PM in the church sanctuary with Pastor Stephen Miller and Pastor Stephen 'Slick' Evans officiating.
The family is at the home.
