Darrell Burton Manning

Darrell Burton Manning, 70, of Calhoun Falls, SC, husband of Bernadine ‘Dena’ Moss Manning, went to be with his Lord, Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Bon Secours St. Francis Downtown in Greenville, SC. He was born in Calhoun Falls, SC to the late Glen and Miriam Hutchison Manning.

A 1973 graduate of Calhoun Falls High School, Darrell was a revered member of the Calhoun Falls Fire department. He served not only as the chief but also as a trusted friend, confidant, and family member to all who served. Darrell embarked on his fire service career 54 years ago, dedicating his life to the department and the community he profoundly cared for. He accepted the role of fire chief in January 2000, serving with distinction for 26 years. During his tenure, he mentored numerous individuals who joined our ranks, guiding multiple generations of firefighters. His departure will be deeply felt by all.

Darrell was employed with KEMET Corporation in Greenwood, SC before retiring from Mohawk Industries after 15 years of dedicated service. He was a charter member of the Upper Savannah River Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) in Elbert County GA, which serves as the coordinating point for licensed amateur radio operators. Darrell was also an active ARRL volunteer examiner for Amateur Radio and a member of the Greenwood Amateur Radio Society. He loved his family dearly, especially his grandson, Wyatt, who was the light of his life. Darrell was a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Rhonda Miriam Kilgore and her husband, Eddy.

Darrell is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dena, of the home; two sons, Jeremy Manning and his wife, Christy and Jason Manning, all of Calhoun Falls; sister, Gaylon McAlister of McCormick; beloved grandson, Wyatt Manning; and two special young ladies, whom he considered his “grand girls", Addysyn and Kennydy McCaslan.

A service to celebrate Darrell’s life will be 2:00PM, Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Calhoun Falls Pentecostal Holiness Church. Full Fireman Honors will be performed at the Calhoun Falls Fire Department, following the service. The family will receive friends following the Fireman Honors.
