Daniel S. 'Dan' Chamblin, Jr.

Daniel Shreve Chamblin, Jr., of Abbeville, SC, husband of the late Margaret Ann ‘Peggi’ Durkin Chamblin, died Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Self Regional Healthcare after a brief illness. Dan was born in Loudoun County, Virgina, on May 5, 1946, to the late Daniel Shreve Chamblin, Sr. and Ernestine Fox Chamblin.

Recognized in Abbeville as “the man who walks his dog,” Dan was known for his friendliness, generosity and storytelling. As an adult, Dan was a banker, a restaurateur, a realtor and an actor. His restaurant, “The Ice House,” was known in Northern Virginia for fine food and entertainment.

Dan was an avid confederate reenactor, often portraying Jeb Stuart, who he looked remarkably like. He was certified by the National Park Service in confederate artillery. When the movie, “Gettysburg” was being filmed, Dan was recruited to oversee the artillery set up and his acting career began. He went on to appear in several films in addition to “Gettysburg,” most notably “Forrest Gump,” and “The Notebook.”

Dan’s father was a horse trainer and he and his sisters were avid riders. Dan also loved horse racing and horse racing history. He was a member of Main Street Methodist Church in Abbeville.

In addition to his beloved wife, Peggi, Dan was predeceased by his son Edwin Enoch Chamblin and his sisters, Mildred Chamblin and Betty Chamblin DeLuca.

Dan is survived by a daughter-in-law, Kimberly Kieloch Chamblin; four grandchildren, Mason Riley Chamblin, Liam Thomas Kieloch Chamblin and Xander Finley Chamblin, all of Locust Grove, VA and a granddaughter, Gracyn Shreve Champlin of Charlotte, NC; son, Nathaniel Shreve Chamblin of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Sally Fox Chamblin of Chesterfield, VA, and Anne Stuart Chamblin of Gerrardstown, WV; many nieces and nephews and his friends, John and Nancy Walborn of Abbeville, SC.

He will be laid to rest with his beloved wife in Union Cemetery, 323 N. King Street, Leesburg, VA 20175 early next month.
