Larry Daniel ‘Dan’ Cobb, 80, of Due West SC, died Friday, February 23, 2024, at the Hospice House in Greenwood. He was born October 13, 1943, in Westminster, SC to the late John Edward and Ethel George Cobb.
Dan, a 1961 graduate of Westminster High School, attended the University of South Carolina, and earned his bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University. He was a proud veteran of the US Navy serving on the USS Chivo submarine with honor and distinction. Dan’s professional path led him through a long career in electrical engineering, retiring in 2010. He was employed with Davis Electrical Construction in Greenville, Erskine College Maintenance Department in Due West and Duke Energy Corporation.
In addition to his professional achievements, Dan was actively involved in his community. He served on the Due West Town Council, eventually becoming the Mayor of Due West. While as mayor, he initiated the Due West Fall Festival. Dan also selflessly served as a Due West Volunteer Fire Fighter.
He found joy in colorful storytelling and had a special love for traveling, especially when accompanied by his beloved daughter. Dan lived in many different places, but loved Due West the most and made it his final home after retirement. He found contentment in fine dining experiences with his daughter in downtown Greenville. A Glenlivet Scotch Neat became his ritual – a toast to life and shared memories that will forever linger in their hearts. A true sports enthusiast, Dan was a passionate supporter of the University of South Carolina, LSU, Erskine College and the Atlanta Braves.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death his sister, Jean Cobb Lambert and twin brothers, Martin Jerry Cobb and Michael Andrew Cobb.
Dan is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth ‘Beth’ Jean Cobb; sister, Janice Cobb Setzler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
