Charles Andrew Wendell

Charles ‘Chuck’ or ‘Charlie’ Andrew Wendell, 40, of Greenwood, SC, died Thursday, May 16, 2024, at his home. He was the firstborn son, born in Huntington, WV to Herbert Andrew Wendell and Patricia Gabriela (Garza) Summers.

Charles lived in Abbeville and Greenwood during elementary and middle school where he showed extraordinary natural talent in art and athletics from a very young age. He began drawing at five years old, he loved to sing and perform. He played baseball, football, and was a competitive gymnast during his elementary years.

Charles attended high school in Bradenton, FL, where he excelled as a defensive lineman in football. Known for his relentless pursuit and dynamic tackles, he was a formidable presence on the field. His tenacity and skill were undeniable. Following high school, his passion for filmmaking led him to pursue a degree in film production from Full Sail University, in Winter Park, FL.

His creative spirit extended well beyond the screen. He was known for his endless creative endeavors, digital art, graphic designs, event production, videography, photography, and his exceptional skills as a painter, sculptor and writer.

Charles’ crowning accomplishment, however, was the birth of his son, Logan Dane Wendell in 2003. He loved to spend his time counseling and imparting wisdom to his son through long, deep and meaningful conversations. They loved exploring, going on adventures. Their days together were filled with love and laughter.

Charlie saw the good in all people and cared about everyone he encountered. He was fueled by love and loved others with great passion. He was a friend and counselor to the hurting, broken, poor and lost.

Chuck was captivated by the complexity of humanity. He felt deeply. A renaissance man and philosopher at heart, Charles pondered life’s mysteries with an insatiable curiosity that fascinated and inspired those around him. He was a master storyteller and a creative genius, following in the footsteps of his ancestors. He loved nature, children and animals. His kind and generous spirit touched the lives of all those that had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

Charles attended New Spring Church, Greenwood, SC.

He was preceded in death by his nephew, Collin Blake Wendell, Sr and two loving grandmothers, Patricia Ann ‘Ena’ Garza and Bonna Rebecca ‘Mamaw’ Wendell.
