FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS

Charlie W. Lomax of Abbeville, SC, husband of Mabel McClease Lomax was born March 29, 1942, in Mt. Carmel, SC to the late John Lomax, Jr. and Mary Alice Parks Lomax.

Affectionately referred to as ‘Chuck’ by his family and close friends, he was raised in a loving Christian family home where Christianity was believed, taught and enforced. The family place of worship was Spring Grove Baptist Church, Mt. Carmel, SC. Charlie was educated in the McCormick school system.

He relocated to MA in 1961, met the love of his life, Mabel McClease, and they were married in 1964. Charlie worked at two companies during his 45 years there, Morton Shoe Company as Shipper/Receiver Supervisor for 22 years and Tufts University as Shipper/Receiver and lastly as a Dental Chair Technician for 23 years. He joined Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge No. 9 in 1983. His wise words were, “you work the job don’t let the job work you.”

Charlie retired in 2006 and relocated to Abbeville, SC. He reinstated his membership at his home church, Spring Grove Baptist Church. After a short period of time, he was called to become a Deacon and served other areas of the church.

Charlie loved his family, church, his childhood friends and was truly blessed with new friends God put in his path. His hobbies were fishing, gardening, landscaping, collecting antique farm equipment such as, John Deere tractor toys and watching old TV shows. Charlie enjoyed everyday life.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication cherished by his devoted wife of than more 60 years; two beautiful daughters, Renee (Sean) Carter and Daphne (Gary) Washington; seven grandsons, Austin, Brendan, Devin, Kory, Kyle, Matthew and Keith. Surviving sisters are Beffie (Rosco) Travis, Mary (Anthony) Collica, Lee Lomax, Helen (Curtis) Abraham; aunt, Orelee Pratt, who grew up like a sibling; and a host of other relatives. Charlie was preceded in death by his siblings, Lula Axson, Reaver Cherry, Carl Lomax and John T. Lomax, III.

Charlie lived a blessed life of purpose, love and service. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know him. His life was a reflection of his unwavering faith, love for family and commitment to community. May he Rest in Everlasting Peace.
