Cecil H. Ashley

Cecil H. Ashley, 69, husband of Nancy Stewart Ashley, of Abbeville, died Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont in Greenwood. He was born in Anderson to the late Theo Ashley and Janie Brock Wilson.
After being associated with Pirelli Cable for many years, Cecil was then employed with Smith’s Pest Control. Previously a member of the Abbeville Jaycees, he was also a founding member of the Edgewood Volunteer Fire Department. Cecil belonged to Clinton Masonic Lodge #3 AFM and the Hejaz Shrine Temple. He was a member of Congregational Holiness Church in Abbeville. Cecil was an extremely generous giver with a humble spirit. A willing, capable caregiver, his first thoughts were of others.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Ashley, and his cherished dog, Kelly Ashley.
Cecil is survived by his wife of 31 years, Nancy, of the home; a son, Scott Ashley, of Abbeville; a daughter, Melissa Ashley, of Mt. Airy, NC; a step-daughter, Halee Webb, of Abbeville; a step-son, Scott Webb, of Abbeville; a brother, Roger Dale Ashley (Teresa), of Anderson; three sisters, JoAnn Brock and Janie Weathers, both of Honea Path and Shelby Brock (Donnie) of Belton; a grandson, Zachary Ashley; a special great-niece, Pressley Hammonds; and his beloved cat, Sam.
The family will receive friends 2:30PM – 3:30PM, Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville. Funeral services will begin at 4:00PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Willie McCurry and Rev. Johnny Waller officiating. Masonic rites will be rendered at the conclusion of the funeral service in the chapel. A private family burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorials, in memory of Cecil, are sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1893, Memphis, TN 38101-9950 or to the Abbeville County Animal Shelter, 903 W. Greenwood St., Suite 2800, Abbeville, SC 29620.
