Carolyn Freeland Winn, 98, widow of Harold Augustus Winn, entered into rest on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at Hospice House of Greenwood.  Mrs. Winn, born June 16, 1921, was the daughter of the late Hugh Manning and Lula Self Freeland.

She was reared in the White Town section of McCormick County in a loving home with many sisters and one brother.  Mrs. Winn was preceded in death by sisters Mary Lee Freeland, Hugh Margaret Freeland Welborn, Virginia Freeland Culbreath, Marian Freeland Jones, Cornelia Freeland Collier, and by her brother Manning Corey Freeland.

Her surviving sibling is Mabel Freeland Hemminger of Abbeville.  In addition, there are seventeen nieces and nephews, many with children and grandchildren of their own.

She graduated from Winthrop College in home economics, class of 1941 and taught school before serving in the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps during World War II.  Mrs. Winn worked as an office manager at Marks Oxygen Company in Augusta, Georgia, for many years. In 1986, she retired from the McCormick County Department of Social Services. As a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church, Mrs. Winn faithfully attended, taught Sunday School, and was the pianist there for many years until she moved to Forest View Manor, her home since 2008.  The family gives thanks for the loving care provided by the entire staff who were family to her.  She had many other lifelong friends and everyone will miss her gentle and generous spirit.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at 2 p.m. in the Harris Funeral Home Chapel, 302 N. Main St, Abbeville, SC, with Rev. Deloris Rapp officiating. Out of caution, Mrs. Winn’s family has requested those considering attending her services to participate by remaining home and viewing her service by going to her obituary via www.harrisfuneral.com A private burial will be in the Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rehoboth Baptist Church, P.O. Box 51, Edgefield, S.C. 29824 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave, Greenwood, S.C. 29646.
