Bishop James C. Watson

Bishop James C. Watson, 93 of Walhalla, SC, husband of the late Bobbie Wright Watson, died Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at the Lakeview Assisted Living in Walhalla, SC. He was born April 2, 1928 in Abbeville, SC to the late Elijah A. and Ruby Anna Vaughn Watson.

A dedicated minister with the Church of God of Prophecy for more than 70 years, Bishop Watson was a member of Seneca Church of God of Prophecy. His ministry as an evangelist started on a street corner on the square in his hometown of Abbeville, South Carolina. From there he served in many positions within the Church of God of Prophecy including State Evangelist and SC Youth Director. As Youth Director he established a summer Youth Camp Program in SC that is still in existence these many years later He also served as a beloved Pastor for many years in pastorates all over SC, including Ridgeland, Westminster, Wattsville, Lancaster, Hampton. Dacusville, Coward, Cherokee Falls, Easley, North Charleston, and Columbia. While Serving as a pastor he also served as a District Overseer in many of the Areas where he lived and pastored.

In addition to his parents and wife, Bishop Watson is preceded in death by five sisters, Everlee Watson Horne, Verna Watson Morris, Rosa Watson Harrison, Nan Watson Sadowski, and his twin sister Grace Watson Craine.

Bishop Watson is survived by his son, Dale Watson of Mt. Pleasant, SC; four daughters, Sharon Harmon of Summerville, SC, Rene Rausch of Hendersonville, NC, Anna Shepherd of Greer, SC and Melissa Evans of Fair Play, SC; thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Watson of Walhalla, SC; three sisters; Jean Watson Shaw of Due West, SC, O’Jetta Watson Breazale of Fayetteville, GA, and, Vera Watson Bagwell of Greenwood, SC.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to Gail Buckler who served as his in-home caregiver and to Dawn, Chris and the entire staff of Lakeview Assisted Living.

The family will receive friends 2:00PM - 3:00PM, Sunday, October 3, 2021 in the Seneca Church of God of Prophecy, 1016 Overbrook Drive, Seneca, SC 29678. Funeral services will begin at 3:00PM in the church sanctuary with Rev. Andy Kinder officiating. A private family burial will follow in Latimer Cemetery in Calhoun Falls, SC.

Memorial contributions, in memory of Bishop Watson, may be sent to Friends of Lakeview, 320 Camp Road, Walhalla, SC 29691.
