Bette M Stone

Bette Paige Montgomery Stone, 90, of Abbeville, wife of the late Davis Gene Stone, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the Hospice House in Greenwood. Born February 9, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Robert Ellie and Ida Mae Howe Montgomery.

Bette graduated from Union High School in 1954 and the Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1957. She practiced nursing for 48 years and retired in 2005 from Milliken & Co – Abbeville and Sharon plants after 32 years as an Occupational Healthcare Nurse. Bette was a former member of the SC Occupational Nurses Association and the Spartanburg General Hospital Alumni Association. She was a member of South Side Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School class.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe (Gladys), Fred (Jeannine), and Harold Montgomery; father and mother-in-law, Lewis and Roxie Stone; and brother-in-law, Joe Ray.

Bette is survived by her sisters-in-law, Terrie H. Montgomery (Harold) and Ann S. Ray; niece, Leigh Ann Brown Taylor; nephews, Mark, Craig, Scott, and Johnny Montgomery; and many great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special friends, Sharon Hughes and family, Pat and Dena Hodge and family, and wonderful neighbors, Lisa Simpson and Tony and Barbara Consorte.

The family will receive friends 2:00PM – 3:00PM, Monday, August 10, 2026 at Harris Funeral Home, 302 North Main Street, Abbeville, SC 29620. Funeral services will begin at 3:00PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dr. Joel Bradberry officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

The family extends their sincere appreciation to the medical teams at Self Regional Healthcare, Abbeville Area Medical Center and the Hospice House in Greenwood for taking such good care of Bette. A special thank you to Dr. Heidi Rodillio for the many, many years of being her doctor, but most of all for their friendship. Bette did not want to see anyone but Dr. Heidi. Also, thanks to the staff at Silver Treasures for their care of Bette the last several years. You provided a home away from home for her.
