Beatrice 'Nanny Bea' Burton Shiflet

May 22, 1928 — June 27, 2019

Beatrice Burton Shiflet, 91, of Calhoun Falls, wife of the late John Floyd Shiflet, died Thursday, June 27, 2019 at her home.  She was born in Anderson County to the late Willie G. and Amy Jackson Burton.

Nanny Bea, as she was affectionately known, was the owner and operator of the Little Star and B & B’s restaurants in Calhoun Falls. She found contentment in observing flowers and because of her green thumb, was known to grow them beautifully. As a #1 fan of the Calhoun Falls Blue Flashes, Nanny Bea was most enthusiastic when following the football team. She lovingly cared for animals, often providing food for those who were hungry. A military wife, Nanny Bea supported Wounded Warriors and her patriotism was constantly evident. Previously she held membership in Willing Workers. An involved member of Lake Russell Baptist Church, she was instrumental in its building and advancement.

In addition to her parents and husband, Nanny Bea was preceded in death by two brothers, Rev. Billy Burton and Ralph Burton; a sister, Betty Ann Burton Richey and her husband, Jack; a son-in-law, Bill Wells; and a sister-in-law, Doris Burton.

She is survived by her son, Will Shiflet, of Calhoun Falls; three daughters, Patricia Wells of Abbeville, Pam Torrance (Walter) of Calhoun Falls and Dolores Fleming (Barry) of Elberton, GA; two brothers, Jack Burton (Pat) of Greenwood and David ‘Red’ Burton of Warner Robins, GA; a sister-in-law, Lois Burton of Enoree; four grandchildren, Wendi Alewine (Mike), Amanda Richardson (Keith), Craig Fleming (Jessie) and Alan Fleming; and six great-grandchildren, Savannah (Andrew), William, Jake, Shelby, Maci and Lane.

The family will receive friends 1:00PM – 2:00PM, Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Lake Russell Baptist Church in Elberton. Funeral services will begin at 2:30PM in the church with Rev. Phil Keown officiating. Burial will follow in Latimer Cemetery in Calhoun Falls.
