Rita L. (Robertson) Simmons, US Navy, Ret.

July 15, 1953 ~ April 20, 2018 (age 64)

Rita L. Robertson Simmons, Petty Officer First Class, US Navy, Ret., 64, of Honea Path, SC, formerly of South Bend, IN, died Friday, April 20, 2018 at the Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson, SC.  She was born in South Bend, IN to the late Charles T. Robertson and Muriel A. Wegner Robertson.

Ms. Simmons, a 1971 graduate of La Salle High School in South Bend, IN, joined the United States Navy following graduation.  She retired from active duty in 1995. Ms. Simmons enjoyed reading and listening to music, especially rock and roll. She was a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Green Bay Packers. Ms. Simmons relished her travel in the mountains of Tennessee.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Robertson and a sister, Debbie Walton.

Ms. Simmons is survived by two sons, Eric Simmons (Leigh) of Savannah, GA and Joshua Simmons (Marci) of Jacksonville, FL; a brother, Paul Robertson (Irma) of Midland, TX; three sisters, Diane Creeden of Las Vegas, NV, Nona Benway of Honea Path, SC, and Cheryl Simmons (Terry) of Honea Path, SC; and four grandchildren, Bhealor, Jackson, Corbin, and Huttson.

A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, May 4, 2018 at the M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery, 140 Inway Drive, Anderson, SC 29621 with full military honors presented by the Campbell Patriots.
