Peggy Canfield New, 81, wife of the late Harold Dean New, of Abbeville, SC, died Friday, August 10, 2018, at the Abbeville Area Medical Center. She was born in Greenwood, SC to the late Roy Canfield and Grace Hucks Canfield.
A graduate of Abbeville High School, Peggy retired from Monsanto, Inc. In her retirement, she worked greeting cards at many locations. Peggy was a loving mother and grandmother, generous friend, faithful member of the Hardee’s breakfast club, and devoted servant of Christ. She was a member of Rice Memorial and a former, longtime member of Lebanon Presbyterian in Abbeville.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Roy Eugene Canfield Jr. and Gene Canfield and sister, Beatrice Gallman Clark.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Robin New Crocker (Tony) of Abbeville; siblings, Bob Canfield (Shelby), Betty Moon (Billy), and Brenda Barnes; grandson, Geoff Crocker (Kristi) and their children Christian, Ryan, Isabella, and Cash of Abbeville; grandson, Bryan Crocker (Stacy) and their children Dayde, Morgan, Andrew, Madison, and Emalyn of Greenwood; and grandson, Jeromy Crocker (Elizabeth) of Greenwood.
The family will receive friends 2:00PM – 3:30PM, Monday, August 13, 2018 at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 4:00PM in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Alvin Hodges officiating. A private burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
